Phife Dawg was and still is a legendary hip-hop figure. After his death many rappers expressed how Phife Dawg inspired them and how much he was truly going to be missed. In an effort to continue Phife’s memory, Hip-Hop pioneer KRS-1 decided he needed to drop a track that expressed his feelings about the loss of the great hip-hop warrior.

“The Phife Tribute” was produced by Dj Static and samples the Chi-lites record “Have You Seen Her.” KRS spits in the song talking about his favorite Phife Dawg moments. He talks about memories of A Tribe Called Quest and himself tearing down stages and how albums like Midnight Marauders and Low End Theory being major influencing albums in Hip-Hop. At the end of the track KRS-1 challenges other M.C.s to hop on the track in memory of the legend to help to keep his legacy alive.
