The Lonely Island put on a hilarious and memorable ’90s-themed performance to honor Smith for all he’s done in the industry. Queen Latifah and Halle Berry got onstage to share some stories about their good friend and his acting career, as well as his fight for diversity in Hollywood. Will Smith made the crowd laugh by calling his award “The Old Man Award” at the beginning of his speech. Later in his speech, we saw an emotional side of The Fresh Prince after he said

“I released my first record when I was 17, and this June marks 30 years in this business for me… I really want to say I’m humbled, and I just want all of you to know I’m dedicated to being a light in this world. There’s a lot of suffering – a lot of people are suffering in this world. When you see my material, and when I present myself in public, and what I’m trying to build with my family and friends, I just want all of you to know I’m dedicated until I die to light and to love. So thank you all.”

He’s one of the last real movie stars in the world, still opening films after thirty years in the business, his face a universal symbol for what’s good at the movies and in humanity. He seems well aware of his meaning in the industry and to his audience.
