People has reported that Guyanese teen, Kyla Hyles (left),has become the second student in NYC to get accepted into all 8 Ivy League schools.
According to People, Kelly commutes an hour and a half from Queens to her high school in Harlem. Kelly currently attends the renowned High School of Math, Science and Engineering at City College of New York. She also participates in a “highly competitive” biomedical research program at Mount Siani’s Icahn School of Medicine.
Kelly’s mom, Anette Hyles (right), migrated from Guyana to the United States in 2009. Anette works as an overnight nurses aide until 7am and them goes to her second job beginning at 8 am while simultaneously raising Kelly as a single mother. Anette tells People that she cried “tears of joy” when she received the news.
Kelly got accepted into a total of 21 schools including John Hopkins and MIT. Kelly says she’s meaning more toward her dream school of Harvard University.
