After emigrating from South Sudan on a student visa to Canada six months ago, 6-foot-9 basketball star Jonathon Nicola has gained a lot of attention since his move, obviously for his skill on the court, but now for his personal life.
It’s possible that he may be a year younger than 31-year-old LeBron James.
Nicola was arrested by border officials for “allegedly contravening the Immigration Refugee Protection Act.”
He stayed with Catholic Central High School head coach Pete Cusumano through a program called Canada Homestay which provides foreign students with homes. Cusumano told the Windsor Star that he believed Nicola had an opportunity to go to the NBA.
He had been posing as a 17-year-old grade 11 student since his arrival.
