After previously saying that he wants consideration for the New York Knicks’ head coaching position, former NBA great and current Charlotte Hornets assistant coach Patrick Ewing heard from the Sacramento Kings about their coaching vacancy.
Ewing, who spent 15 years as a member of the Knicks, has yet to hear from the organization, which is reportedly leaning on retaining interim coach Kurt Rambis on a permanent basis.
With Sacramento’s termination of now former head coach George Karl and his noted tainted relationship with star center DeMarcus Cousins, a partnering with Ewing could make sense, given the simple fact that he could help mold Cousins into a bigger star than the one he has already shown glimpses of.
Ewing’s interview with the Kings will be his third time interviewing with a team for a head coaching gig, having done so with Charlotte and Detroit in previous years.
The team has also met with Sam Mitchell, Vinny Del Negro, and Mike Woodson, with a future interview with Pacers assistant Nate McMillian still pending.
