Vogel, 42, made the playoffs in five of the six seasons he coached the Pacers. Team president Larry Bird made the decision to part ways with Vogel, saying that he wasn’t fired, but that “his contract is up and I just made the decision not to renew it.”

Below is a series of tweets sent out by the Pacers with quotes from Bird during his press conference.

Bird told reporters during his time at the podium that he spoke with Vogel on Thursday morning, and that the coach asked him to “reconsider his decision and ‘start all over.'”

The Pacers finished the 2015-2016 regular season seventh in the Eastern Conference with a 45-37 record before they eventually fell to Toronto in seven games.
