On Mother’s Day, VH1 is airing a special entitled “Dear Mama,” where Alicia Keys will pay tribute to her mother with a performance of her 2003 single, “If I Ain’t Got You.” In the taser, Alicia tries not to cry while thanking her mother, Terria Joseph, for helping her perfect the piano keys at such a young age:
“She found me a piano teacher and she found the money to pay for it and she found even a piano. Who can fit a piano in a one bedroom apartment?”
Then the singer changed the words to her Diary of Alicia Keys single to dedicate the track to her lovely mother:
“Some people want it all, but I don’t want nothing at all. If it ain’t you, mama. If I ain’t got you, mama.”
During the show, Will Smith also honored his wife Jada Pinkett-Smith, along with their children Willow, Jaden, and Trey. Meanwhile, Rita Ora, Queen Latifah, and Alessia Cara paid tribute to their moms.
The program also features an appearance from Hillary Clinton, who introduced Lucy McBath. McBath is the mother of Jordan Davis, a teenager who was shot and killed during an argument over loud music in 2012. She is now working as the Faith and Outreach Leader for Everytown for Gun Safety.
