The Sacramento Kings on Monday announced former Memphis Grizzles coach Dave Joerger as their new head coach.

The team did not disclose details of the contract, but according to, sources have indicated that Joerger is expected to make $16 million over the course of four years, with the final year of the deal coming as a team option.

“I am thrilled to welcome Dave to the Sacramento Kings,” Kings vice president of basketball operations Vlade Divac said Monday in a statement, calling him a “passionate leader with a “proven track record of producing results.”

Joerger emerged as a strong candidate for the job after several successful talks with Divac. His agent, Warren LaGarie, and Kings owner Vivek Ranadive were expected to join the meetings on Monday.

Before his meetings with Joerger, Divac interviewed Sam Mitchell, Vinny Del Negro, Mike Woodson, David Blatt, Mark Jackson, Jeff Hornacek and Nate McMillan, along with assistant coaches Patrick Ewing and Elston Turner.
