Janet Jackson is the queen of “stay out of my business,” as she was secretly married twice in the early stages of her career. Her most notable marriage was to ’80s R&B star James DeBarge. Since the annulment of their marriage in the early ’80s, there has always been an urban legend that the two had a secret child that Janet put up for adoption. Now with the announcement of Jackson’s presumed first pregnancy, the rumors are back and DeBarge is at he source of it.

In an exclusive interview with Radar Online, DeBarge claims a teenage Jackson secretly gave birth to a daughter and gave the child up for adoption. DeBarge claims Jackson hid the pregnancy from him and he did not believe the rumors until a young woman began contacting him by email claiming to be his biological daughter.

He said the woman reached out to him anonymously, “The first time was two years ago. I have not been able to directly see her face-to-face.” DeBarge claims the woman admitted being the daughter of Janet Jackson and wanted to have a paternity test to prove that DeBarge is in fact her biological father.

DeBarge claims the woman came forward after seeing a slew of imposers claiming to be the DeBarge-Jackson love child. DeBarge spoke on her intentions by saying:

“She was very angry about people running with this story about this [other child] being my baby. She got very angry. She’s like, ‘Papa I want to help you out.’ She had so much of personality and she was so accurate with everything she was saying, it was only things that I and Janet know. No one else but god, me and Janet.”

Jackson has never spoken out on the rumors and is still mum today. But, DeBarge believes that Jackson hid the pregnancy from him due to his drug use, pressure of fame and their ages. In 1995 he wrote an open letter to Jackson demanding answers.

“From every angle, from inside and outside… Not knowing how it could hurt her career. A lot of outside influences were involved in our whole relationship to where we didn’t have a chance from the gate.”

Looks like this rumor is going to live on another 30 years.
