In Beyonce’s latest visual album, not only did a few star-studded celebrities like Serena Williams and Zendaya make cameos, the socially aware icon made sure that she included the mothers of the late Trayvon Martin, Mike Brown, and Eric Garner.

While speaking about her latest book, Lezley McSpadden, the mother of Michael Brown, talked to Sirius XM about her role in the visual.  She stated that because Beyonce had done work in her son’s charity, she was open to whatever the singer had in mind.

“She had also did some things for my son’s foundation, so at that point, whatever you want me to do, I’ll do it,” she said.

She also mentioned that the singer went out of her way to make the mothers feel comfortable.

“She didn’t come in like a celebrity. She was wholeheartedly sympathetic. And she talked, she cried, and she shared some things with us.”

Her book, Tell the Truth, Shame the Devil, hits stands May 13th.
