Erykah Badu has been up to a lot lately from new songs to movie trailers but yesterday, she assisted Robert Glasper in remaking Miles Davis’ “Maiysha”, originally released in 1974 on Davis’ Get Up With It.

When Glasper say down with Rolling Stone, he told them how the whole collaboration came together:

“We sat down for a few days before [Badu] came up with the idea of a bossa nova, and Vincent [Wilburn Jr., Davis’ nephew and Eighties-era drummer] recommended using ‘Maiysha,’ which comes from the mid-Seventies and has this beautiful trumpet solo by Miles.”

“Maiysha” is on Glasper’s tribute album Everything’s Beautiful which is on the recently released biopic, Miles Ahead, starring Don Cheadle.
