Debra Lee tweeted her excitement to join the Twitter team. “Thrilled to be joining the
@twitter board. It’s transformed the media and the world like few other things in history (and continues to)!!”
Lee joins the company at a tough time as they struggle for user growth. According to Forbes, Twitter’s monthly active users only increased by 3% year-over-year to 310 million in the first quarter from 305 million. Lee being on the board is thought to be an attempt to add diversity to Twitter’s board of directors by Twitter CEO, Jack Dorsey. Two other additions to the board are: Hugh Johnston, chief financial officer at Pepsi, and Martha Lane Fox, a member of the U.K. House of Lords and founder of the travel and leisure site Lastminute.com. Fox is also the second woman after Lee to join the Twitter board of directors.
It’s going to be great to see what this board does new to keep Twitter innovative.
Congrats Mrs. Debra Lee!
