On May 19 founding member of the Beastie Boys, John Berry, died at the age of 52. Berry. According to reports, his father, John Berry III said Berry suffered from increasingly worse frontal lobe dementia.
He and RCA created the band later to known as the Beastie Boys back when they were teenagers. He appeared on the group’s debut EP Polly Wog Stew in 1982, and left the group shortly after. He, along with former group member Kate Schellenbach were replaced by Ad-Rock. The group later went on to combine punk with hip-hop and became an intricate group to Def Jam Records.
Berry went on to be a member of other bands like Bourbon Deluxe, Highway Stars, Big Fat Love, and Even Worse.
