The folks at the Billboard Music Awards tried their best to create a tribute to Prince that they thought was fitting of the late music legend. For the job, they called upon Madonna to sing “Nothing Compares 2 U,” and Stevie Wonder later joined her to sing “Purple Rain” to honor the Purple One.
Before their performance was even over, Black Twitter was quick to bash the tribute, and BET even made a shady post about how we could expect better at their awards show, set to take place in June.
Madonna got wind of the shade (backlash) about her performance, and extended an invitation to all of those who think they can do better to give it a shot.
On Instagram, she posted a picture of her along with the caption:
“Anyone who wants to do a tribute to Prince is welcome to,” she wrote. “Whatever your age Gender or skin Color. If you loved him and he inspired you then show it!!!! I love Prince 4 ever.”
She told us.
