As people begin to dig more into the life of the Orlando nightclub, Pulse, shooter Omar Mateen, the details that come to the surface seem to be very interesting and inter-connected.

In addition to reports of his affiliation with ISIS, reports are also beginning to surface that Mateen himself was a regular at the Pulse nightclub. On top of that, many reports are saing that Mateen himself was gay- having many relationships with men, and even had accounts on gay social media applications.

A classmate of Mateen’s spoke to the Palm Beach Post and say that Omar had once asked him out:

The classmate said that he, Mateen and other classmates would hang out, sometimes going to gay nightclubs, after classes at the Indian River Community College police academy.

He said Mateen asked him out romantically.

“We went to a few gay bars with him, and I was not out at the time, so I declined his offer,” the former classmate said. He asked that his name not be used.

It is believed that Mateen was “in the closet”, aka not open about his sexuality:

“He just wanted to fit in and no one liked him,” he said. “He was always socially awkward.”

This latest development leaves many with more questions about the shooting, Mateen’s motives, and what events led up to this tragedy.
