They did it! The Cleveland Cavaliers are the NBA champions for the first time in franchise history! With the 93-89 win over the Golden State Warriors, the Cavs have brought the first championship to the state of Ohio in over 50 years.

LeBron James had a triple double with 27 points, 11 rebounds and 11 assists the Cavs made history by becoming the first team ever to win a series after being down 3-1, James was named series MVP. Kyrie Irving had a three-point basket with 53 seconds on the clock to give Cleveland the final lead after the game was tied at 89 for four minutes.

The Stephen Curry-led Warriors failed to win the title back-to-back after beating Cleveland last year in six games. This season, Golden State broke the record for most regular season victories with 73, outdoing Michael Jordan’s 1995-1996 Chicago Bulls by one game.

During the post game Q&A, J.R. Smith spoke about what winning the championship means to him in a very emotional speech.

Never, ever forget that J.R. Smith is the turn up Gawd. Yes, he has settled down and gotten married in the last year, but he celebrated his first NBA championship in the best way J.R. Smith knows how.
