In the latest dose of Black Girl Magic we have Marvel character Riri, a teenage black girl studying at M.I.T who will become the new Iron Man.

Riri will replace Tony Stark, says writer Michael Bendis, as she captured the attention of Stark after building her own Iron Man costume at his home.

Bendis says the character was inspired by some of his experiences in a recent trip to Chicago, and that he wanted to put a modern twist on one of the stores he heard while there:

“… this story of this brilliant, young woman whose life was marred by tragedy that could have easily ended her life, just random street violence, and went off to college was very inspiring to me. I thought that was the most modern version of a superhero or superheroine story I had ever heard.”

We can’t wait to see the character of Riri to unfold !
