On Tuesday, 33 people were hospitalized due to smoking a bad batch of the “synthetic marijuana” known as K2 in Brooklyn. Reportedly, police officers received phone calls about multiple overdoses in the Bedford Stuyvesant section of Brooklyn. According to residents in the neighborhood there is a high amount of synthetic weed users in the area but they claim to have never seen an incident like this before.
Eight people were taken from the Stockton Street area to Woodhull Medical Center suffering from “altered mental states,” lethargy and respiratory issues around 9:40 a.m., a spokesman for the Fire Department said. Others were found in the surrounding area.
“It’s like a scene out of a zombie movie, a horrible scene,” said Brian Arthur, 38, who watched three people collapse as he made his way to work in the morning and began live-streaming the episode on Facebook. “This drug truly paralyzed people.”
There is a deli in the area that is currently being investigated for selling K2. Reportedly, one of the workers was already arrested for unlawfully selling the synthetic drug. All 33 people that are being hospitalized are expected to recover.
