The Christopher Columbus’ legacy lives on, after turning cornrows to “boxer braids,” and using war bonnets as fashion statements, we can now add another item to the list of appropriated items. Last Saturday, E! News posted an article entitled “WTF Is A Hot Comb -And Why Celebs Love It.” The article was about the “new trend” of the hot comb. The opening sentence stated “It’s a flat-iron…it’s a straightener…it’s a hot comb!” [insert long eye roll]

The hot comb has been used by black women since the 50s. A girl’s passage into womanhood included Saturday nights in the kitchen getting their hair straighten by a hot comb. You put the comb on the stove until its warm, pat it on a paper towel to cool it down, then straighten the kinks out of the hair.

Anyway, after backlash, the website snatched the article down. But the headline lives forever.

#Wayment ? a hot-comb is nothing new
