Close to two years ago, video footage of Ray Rice beating his then-fiance in Atlantic City became public. Since then, he was cut by the Baltimore Ravens, charged with assault and has been the face of public ridicule ever since. The charges were dismissed in May of 2015, but the Pro Bowl running back has found it difficult to enter the league once again. Rice has focused on slowly rebuilding his reputation in hopes that he will professionally play football once again.
He and his now-wife, Janay, have done tons of charity work and he has attended anger management classes. Now Rice is stating that he’ll donate his first year of salary to domestic violence prevention groups if he signs to a team.
All the scrutiny that I’ve got, it was deserved, because domestic violence is a horrible thing,” Rice said.
“Me donating my salary is something that’ll be from the heart for me. I only want to play football so I can end it the right way for my kids and for the people that really believed in me. But I know there’s a lot of people affected by domestic violence, and every dollar helps. It’s raising awareness.”
The minimum amount Rice could make is $885,000. So far, he hasn’t been invited to any training camps. But, these new developments show that a new Ray Rice is ready to prove that he’s a better man.
