It’s been a rough summer for Freddie Gibbs. Just before performing in Paris back in June, he was arrested on allegations of a rape in Austria in 2015. Since the arrest, he has been forced to stay overseas as his lawyers sort through the case. He has maintained his innocence, and his lawyers state that there is no proof, just the accuser’s word.

After being held in a jail in France, Gibbs was eventually released on bail and required to remain in the country until the extradition process to Austria went through. After attempting to appeal the extradition, his legal team decided to withdraw the request in order to speed up the entire process in order to get Gibbs back to his finacé and one-year-old daughter stateside.
“He continues to pursue every available means to demonstrate that he is absolutely innocent and that he has been both belatedly and wrongly accused. To be clear and accurate, to date Freddie Gibbs has not, we reiterate, Freddie Gibbs has not been charged with any offense,” his lawyers said in a new statement.
“An investigation is continuing. Mr. Gibbs remains hopeful that a thorough and searching investigation will reveal the actual facts, including the absence of any scientific, physical, or credible evidence implicating him, thereby paving the way for his exoneration and return to his family and one- year old child.”
