Celebrating his first number one album, DJ Khaled is getting major props from Ms. Lauryn Hill thanks to the song “Nas Album Done” featuring Nas on the Major Key album. Hill posted a letter on social media thanking Khaled for sampling the classic “Fu-Gee-La” track that put The Fugees on the map 20 years ago. She also congratulated Khaled on the extension of his family with the upcoming arrival of his son with fiancé Nicole.

“DJ Khaled, thank you for that acknowledgement, and thank you and Nas for blessing up the chune lol,” she wrote. “‘Fu-Gee-La’ was a special song for us. I have fond memories of us and Salaam [Remi] recording that song. My son, Zion, ironically laid his own thoughts down in a verse on this same song recently. There must be something in the air.”

Lauryn Hill and Nas collabed together on the track “If I Ruled The World (Imagine That)” 20 years ago as well. Nas recently sat down with Complex to explain how the track came about.

“He [Khaled] knew exactly what he wanted. He had a couple of ideas, but the one we put out, that was the one he really wanted…I texted Ms. Lauryn Hill to ask her if she was cool, she said she was cool. She signed off on it, she gave me the approval…I just wanted to get her blessing and we were good.”

Hill has had an history of not clearing samples in the past. Most notably, Kanye West’s “All Falls Down” had to be recorded again with Slyeena Johnson because Hill would not sign off on her vocals in time for Kanye to turn the album in.

Check out Hill’s letter below, and Khaled’s letter about sampling The Fugees for the track.
