Just a week after the release of his third full length project, PARTYNEXTDOOR 3, PARTYNEXTDOOR sat down with Rolling Stone in a very rare interview to discuss his new project, writing for Rihanna, the Kehlani drama and more.

Rihanna’s “Work” is one of the biggest songs of the year. The song that everyone has been twerking on their MCM or WCW to is actually a break up song according to PND.

“I tried this year to make the party songs,” PND says. “It wasn’t in me.” And that includes Rihanna’s “Work:” “People think that’s a party song. It’s a breakup song. It’s blues. I went from braggadocious to blues. It doesn’t make me happy,” he says. “I’m looking for joy. It’s a moment for Rihanna and Drake. I want to invest time in creating moments for myself”

Earlier this year, PartyNextDoor found himself in a slew of controversy after reuniting with his ex, Kehlani. PND made their reunion public with a pic posted on Instagram, without Kehlani letting the world know that she and Kyrie Irving broke up (not like it was anyone’s business anyway). After Kehlani was attacked by comments online stating that she cheated on Irving (which she didn’t), Kehlani attempted suicide. She publicly thanked PND for saving her life and the two haven’t been seen together since. PND revealed in the interview that he is extremely remorseful for how it went down.

“I regret how it went down. Big time I regret how it went down. I look into people’s eyes, and I know they think I’m a bad guy. There’s a lot of details that people don’t know. I just hope people understand that was a year for him (talking about himself in third person). And I hope everyone has a successful year, and I hope that’s in the past.”

PND also discussed why he decided to sign to OVO and how proud his mother is of him. Read it in full here.
