Philando Castile’s former high school raises money for a scholarship in his honor. Last month, Philando Castile was shot and killed by police officers in Falcon Heights, Minnesota. According to the Star Tribune, St. Paul Central High School will give the scholarship “to a student from an underprivileged background who wants to pursue a career in education or child development.”
Castile graduated from St. Paul Central High School in 2001. The alumni class of 2001, 2002, 2003, and 2005 put together a fundraiser for the scholarship in St. Paul earlier this week.“We all had a lot of rage and anger and grief, and we decided to channel that,” Karla Basta, an organizer from the class of 2001, told the Tribune. “Central is a really loyal school, and this was all done by Central alumni.”
Reportedly, the school was able to raise $10,000 prior to the fundraiser, which was the goal. At the end of the fundraising event, the school raised over $25,000. All proceeds from the event will go towards the scholarship fund.
