Last week, Billboard published an interview with Lil Yachty, where the 19-year-old rapper unabashedly admitted that he could not name 5 songs from either Tupac or the Notorious B.I.G., two of hip-hop’s elite.
“But if I’m doing this my way and making all this money,” Yachty asked, “why should I do it how everybody says it’s supposed to be done?”
Of course, this caused quite an uproar within the hip-hop community, as many feel that if you’re a part of the culture, you should know your history – no matter how long before you that it happened. Singer Anderson .Paak is one of those people who feel that way.
“Don’t be cocky in the fact that you don’t know anything about hip hop history,” .Paak tweeted to no one in particular over the weekend. “Real artists are students of the game first.”
Yachty, however, knew this was directed at him. He quickly RT’d the comment with a contemplating face emoji, then proceeded to share his thoughts. Check out what he said below and let us know if you agree or disagree!
