The former manager of the rap group N.W.A, Jerry Heller has died at the age of 75. According to Billboard, Heller’s cousin, Gary Ballen confirmed the news on his death. At this time, cause of death remains unknown.
In the 2015 N.W.A biopic, Straight Outta Compton, Heller was portrayed by actor Paul Giamatti. The film depicted the good, bad, and the ugly of the music industry. The film did not only show N.W.A’s success, but also the contractual and monetary issues they had with management. Heller disapproved of the way he was portrayed in the film and filed a defamation lawsuit. Reportedly, Heller filed a $110 million suit in damaged against the creators of the film.
Prior to the movie release, Heller spoke about Eazy-E’s influence to the Hip Hop community and stated that he knew that his character was not going to be shown in a positive light because of the “animosity” between him and the creators of the film.
