After two successful season’s of FOX’s hit show Empire, Timbaland has left the show as music supervisor and Rodney “Darkchild” Jerkins and Ester Dean have stepped up, Billboard reports.
Shawn Holiday, senior VP of A&R for Columbia Records spoke to Billboard regarding Timbaland saying, “We were happy to work with Timbaland during the first two seasons, but we wanted to take a different approach for season 3.”
Jenkins, who will serve as music supervisor, has an extensive resume. He has worked with everybody from Micheal Jackson to Beyonce to Nicki Minaj. Dean co-starred in Pitch Perfect 2 and has worked with major artists as well such as Katy Perry and Rihanna. Holiday has high hopes about bringing the pair on board for season 3, “Rodney is a dynamic, multi-format producer experienced in urban, rhythmic and pop. And Dean excels at writing big songs with catchy hooks.”
The new season of Empire premieres September 21st on FOX.
