Yasiin Bey formally known as Mos Def took to Facebook to announce that he will be ending his music career. “I’m retiring for real this year, this week,” said Bey. “With the 17th anniversary of Black on Both Sides being released, I am grateful to have had the career that I have been able to enjoy.”
Currently, Bey is facing a legal dispute in South Africa. He had two shows lined up for this month in London, however one of the shows was pushed back after the venue claimed there was “an urgent issue.” It is unknown if Yasiin will perform due to his current immigration status. He also suggested performing in South Africa and live streaming the show to anyone who purchased a ticket.
In the Facebook post he also stated, “I do have one or two films that I made commitments to earlier, before I announced my retirement. Apart from that, I’m moving onto other things, still being creative. You know, definitely fashion, textiles, and just art. Whatever I can create that’s beautiful and useful, that’s what I wanna do.” Moreover, the rapper announced that he has new music that he gave to Jay Z to be released on Tidal.
