Seven months after the World’s Most Dangerous Rap Group, N.W.A, was inducted into the Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame, they are now being inducted into to the Grammy Hall of Fame.
Yesturday (Nov. 29th), it was announced that N.W.A’s Straight Out Of Compton album is among 25 other inductees in this years hall of fame class, which includes Billie Holiday’s Lady Sings The Blues, Beach Boys “I Get Around”, Nirvana’s “Smells Like Teen Spirit”, David Bowie’s “Changes” and more.
In a statement made by CEO and President of the Recording Academy, Neil Portnow, he says,
“Grammy Hall Of Fame represents all genres of music, acknowledging the diversity of musical expression for which The Academy has become renowned.Memorable and inspiring, these recordings are proudly added to our growing catalog and are an integral part of our musical, social and cultural history.”
Straight Out Of Compton was released in 1988 and caused quite the stir. Their single “Fuck Tha Police” rubs people the wrong way to this day. Regardless of the backlash, there is no doubt that NWA is legendary and their influence was necessary.
