Run DMC has filed a $50 million lawsuit against retailers such as Wal-Mart and Amazon for selling merchandise with their name on it without their permission.
Darryl “DMC” McDaniel, co-founder of the group, was listed as the plaintiff in the suit filed in Southern District of New York. The suit states that the retailers were guilty of “selling, advertising, manufacturing, promoting and distributing” products with their name on it such as glasses, hats, t-shirts, wallets and more.
The lawsuit says that the retailers are using their brand to confuse buyers that Run DMC is actually endorsing the products but they are not. The lawsuit states that this practice is in direct violation of federal trademark and New York unfair competition laws.
Amazon and Wal-Mart have yet to comment.
