On Tuesday, New York State governor Andrew Cuomo proposed that upcoming college freshman should be able to attend State and City Universities as well as community college for free. The criteria is simple, it requires for you to be a high school student that lives in New York whose parents make less than $125k per a year.
Bernie Sanders said, “If New York state does it this year, mark my words, state after state will follow.” Sanders, wanted to make college free throughout the country as it was part of his presidential campaign.
This bill called, “The Excelsior Scholarship” is set to cover whatever cost may be left after state and federal aid is applied to tuition. Cuomo’s plan could affect an estimated 940,000 households and would be implemented over the course of three years starting this fall. Cuomo believes that the plan would cost roughly $163 million annually.
