Within three seasons of “Black-ish” under their belt, Kenya Barris and ABC have one of the best comedy series on TV as confirmed with star Tracee Ellis Ross’ recent Golden Globe win for Best Actress in a Comedy Series.
The show that follows the Johnsons, an upper-middle-class African-American family in the suburbs showcases many triumphs and trials of being Black within white spaces. Due to the success of the show, ABC is now considering a spin-off starring the oldest daughter, Zoey Johnson played by Yara Shahdi.
The stylish, sometimes snobby oldest child of Andre and Rainbow is headed off to college, and “Black-Ish” creator Kenya Barris is currently in talks to create a show based on Zoey’s college experience.
Talks about the spin-off between series creator/executive producer Kenya Barris and ABC Studios are in the early developments. If all goes well, this show can be the equivalent of “A Different World” to “The Cosby Show.”
