Schools and restaurants in Washington, D.C are prepping for their “Day Without Immigrants” protest today but law makers in the nation’s capital, unfortunately, haven’t taken much notice.
Immigrants and others who support the cause planned the “Day Without Immigrants”, planned via social media and word of mouth, to help bring attention to the importance of immigrants in our communities despite the Trump administration trying to push them out.
Restaurants in the area plan to operate short of staff and offer menus that stand in solidarity with immigrants and some establishments are closing all together. Schools are planning to participate as well. A bilingual charter school in Northwest, D.C plans to close while other D.C public schools are prepping for possible walkouts.
Other cities have joined in on the protest including Milwaukee, who hosted a similar protest this week and the beloved bodegas in New York City also closed for a day in protest of Trump’s travel ban.
