James Harris Jackson traveled from Baltimore, MD to New York City with one thing on his mind -killing black men. The white supremacist stabbed 66-year-old Timothy Caughman, who died shortly after from his injuries.
Once apprehended, Jackson revealed why he picked New York City for his vicious attack. “The reason why he picked New York is because it is the media capital of the world,” Chief William Aubry of Manhattan South Detectives said. “He wanted to make a statement.”
Jackson reportedly used a 26-inch mini-sword to repeatedly stab Timothy Caughman in the chest and back as he was digging through the trash near the corner of Ninth Avenue and West 36th Street on March 20, at about 11:30 p.m.
Jackson told police he thought he would get a thrill by slaughtering a young person — but was instead left in a confused “daze” after realizing he took the life of the 66-year-old.
Jackson is charged with second-degree murder as a hate crime, prosecutors said he traveled to NYC to “kill as many black men as possible.” He claimed to have picked New York because he wanted to have as much media attention as possible. He claimed to turn himself in because he was fearful he would kill a mixed-race couple he spotted. Sources claim that Jackson wasn’t fond of black men who dated white women.
New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio has called this act an display of “domestic, racist terrorism.”
