Wiz Khalifa found himself in the center of controversy during a trip to Colombia by posting a picture, which has since been deleted, of what appears to be a tribute to the late drug lord Pablo Escobar. Wiz took the photo while he was in Medellin, the city Escobar was killed in.
One photo showed flowers surrounding Escobar’s grave with the gift emoji as the caption. The caption is an emoji, so of course, the meaning is up for interpretation and some people, arn’t taking it well. He also posted a series of photos of him standing at a gravesite and according to CNN, there was another image of him standing at the site where there was an attempt made to end Escobar’s life in the 1980’s.
The mayor of Medellin, Federico Gutierrez, is calling the Escobar tribute “disrespectful” and that he is not welcome back to the city, That scoundrel, instead of bringing flowers to Pablo Escobar, he should have brought flowers to the victims of violence in this city. He must offer an apology to the city.”
The mayor wasn’t the only one upset. Khalifa caught a lot of heat on social media as well, comparing “praising” Escobar to Bin Laden.
