Mona Haydar is a Syrian Muslim-American poet and activist, best known for starting the #AskAMuslim initiative with her husband. After the terrorist attacks in Paris and San Bernardino, #AskAMuslim began in Cambridge, Massachusetts, where the Haydars set up booths to answer people’s questions about the religion.
She is back this time around with a rap music video to honor the first ever #MuslimWomensDay which was on March 27th. In Mona’s first-ever music video she is pregnant and spitting bars about how she still wraps her hijab even if you hate it.
With all this Islamophobia going around, she felt this was the perfect way to respond to it. On her Facebook, she says “This song is a party.” Many Muslims criticized the young women for dancing and having fun in the video. Mona’s response?
“If my video is haraam, why you watching haraam stuff?”
