Lifetime is creating a film surrounded around the ongoing water crisis in Flint, Mich. Hold on, before you start the latest hashtag in attempts to get the film canceled, check out what Lifetime has planned. Deadline reports the film titled “Flint” will star Queen Latifah, Jill Scott, Betsy Brandt and Marin Ireland. Besides starring in the film, Latifah is also listed as an executive producer on the film.
Inspired by the Time magazine article “The Toxic Tap,” the film will focus on the true story of three women from Flint who fought for justice on behalf of the city residents who unknowingly used the lead-contaminated water. Scott, Brandt and Ireland will play the three activists, and Latifah will portray a fourth resident who fights to expose the city’s water poisoning. Originally, Cher was tapped to star in the film, but she pulled out of that and her executive producer duties citing a personal family issue. The film is set to begin production in Toronto next week.
Meanwhile, Flint, Mich. is on year three of no clean water. However, after a recent civil lawsuit from city residents, the state of Michigan has agreed to replace 18,000 water lines in the next four years.
