Ebro sits down with Lieutenant Andrew Brown of the New York City Fire Department to discuss what he’s doing to strengthen diversity amongst firefighters and the range of emotions citizens feel when the FDNY shows up versus the NYPD.

Ebro asks right off the bat, “Can you speak to what has been done inside the Fire Department to improve a more diverse staff of firefighters?”

“It’s no longer just a conversation, now there’s actually steps being put in place to improve the reflection of the city to the Fire Department” replies Lt. Brown, in regards to what he calls the “hardest hitting campaign the department has seen in 150 years.”

They go on to discuss the importance and seriousness of the FDNY, explaining how the application process is even more difficult than the actual profession. Lt. Brown goes on to encourage anyone in the city who feels the call to serve to apply.
