Troy Ave has recently released his NuPac Album on April 14th, and it includes his take on some unknown information about him wanting to sign with Top Dawg Entertainment.

It can be said that Compton-bred Kendrick Lamar and Brooklyn-bred Ave have a strange relationship but on his new album Ave shares wanting to sign with TDE while he was serving time in prison. He dives into his side of the story in a 32-minute commentary track titled “Truth Be Told PSA”.

After an interaction with Lamar where Ave says he reached out just to say something similar to “I see what you’re going through, man. Send my love,” he began thinking about potentially signing with TDE.

“I always liked what they was doing,” said Ave. “They kinda independent like us, but way bigger because they went and got with a major. They got shit that I like to see, like loyalty and unity, that type of shit.”

Unfortunately, a deal never happened.

Ave was arrested last year on several charges including attempted murder charged and four counts of criminal possession of weapons. The incident involving Ave, resulted in his bodyguard and childhood friend Ronald McPhatter being shot and killed.
