A truly special moment for Grime music and rightly so, Skepta also known as Joseph Junior Adenuga, has led a fantastic career to date; performing on stage with Kanye West at the 2014 Brit Awards, playing with Ed Sheeran, he is also BFF’s with Adele and last year he signed his “bredrin” Drizzy Drake to his independent record label, Boy Better Know.

Although, his best known across the pond from his 2015 breakthrough anthem “Shutdown” and, ultimately, Konnichiwa, his fourth critically acclaimed album, The London grime MC started grinding as a DJ in 2003. But when cops took his vinyl as evidence in a case, he began to pen songs and his first album, Greatest Hits, came out in 2007. Never one to conform to the commercial titillations of the British music scene instead focused on putting out pure, unadulterated grime music on his own terms, this MC has gone on to win the coveted Mercury Prize, two MOBO’s and even the Best International Act at the 2016 BET Awards.

His introduction to American audiences came through DJ Cipha Sounds and Hot 97’s Peter Rosenberg who were both early supporters of his music.

But the true magic of Skepta is that of his family, he co-owns his record label with his brother and fellow MC JME. His younger brother Jason Adenuga produced tracks on the Konnichiwa album and his sister Julie, who is an anchor at Beats1.

Truly, no one no one deserves this moment more than Skepta.
