Disney has been on a run lately. Any old animated franchise the company owns will most likely be remade into a live-action movie. Just look at the recent history, “Cinderella”, “The Jungle Book,” “Maleficent,” and most recently “Beauty and The Beast.” As casting for “The Lion King” reboot is wrapping up, it looks like “Aladdin,” is also up next and I’m ready for all the nostalgia that is going to bring.
Currently, there aren’t any casting announcements, but one. The word is, Will Smith is being eyed for the role of Genie. At this point in time, he is the only name that Disney has revealed. Will Smith hasn’t officially signed on to the project, but it is evident that Disney does want him for the role. Will Smith is a big box office draw and one of the biggest international stars on the planet. Should he take this role he will be filling in some very big shoes. In the 1992 animated version of the film, the late Robin Williams played the role of Genie, and it is going to be hard to see the role played by anyone else even if that person is Will Smith.
