Today is 4/20 and marijuana smokers all over the country are somewhere legally and illegally lighting up their best supply.
Local organization DCMJ, a group of marijuana advocates, in Washington D.C held the first ever “Joint Session” today on Capital Hill. They handed out to joints to anyone with a congressional ID. Weed is now legal in DC for those 21 & up to posses up to 2 ounces, although it is still legal to buy and sell. Recreational marijuana use is illegal at the federal legal despite the many states that have legalized it.
The organizers held it purposefully on DC soil, directly across from The Capitol. Many staffer came- some hesitant- to pick up their free joints. Not long after the event started, Capitol Hill police came to arrest the volunteers.
By 1:30, four people had been arrested including co-founder Adam Eidinger. Capital Hill police released a statement saying, “after witnessing them distributing marijuana in public view to passersby at First and Constitution Avenue, NE” and that “under federal law, it is unlawful to possess marijuana.”
When officers seized the joints, volunteers who weren’t arrested brought out more. LOL. Can’t stop, won’t stop.
How was your 4/20?
