Cuba Gooding Sr., the lead singer of the popular ’70s group The Main Ingredient was found dead in a car in Los Angeles on April 20, officials said. Gooding, who is the father of actors Cuba Gooding Jr. and Omar Gooding would have turned 73 next week.
Early investigations point to the cause of death being a possible overdose.The Los Angeles County coroner’s office reported that several bottles of alcohol and drug paraphernalia were found in the 2012 Jaguar he was in. Toxicology report results are currently pending.
According to ABC7, Gooding’s car was seen pulling up to the location around 3 a.m. and he was last seen alive the day before. Authorities were called after someone noticed an unresponsive body in the vehicle. After a failed attempt to revive him, paramedics pronounced him dead at the scene.
The Main Ingredient was best known for their hits “Everybody Plays the Fool” and “Just Don’t Want to Be Lonely.”
