The Trump administration is still looking for ways to pay for President Donald Trump’s proposed U.S./Mexico wall border that has been a part of his Homeland Security plans since campaigning over a year ago. His former punching bag turned GOP lackey Ted Cruz has come up with the scheme of all schemes. Ted Cruz believes El Chapo himself should help fund the wall.
Ted Cruz introduced the “Ensuring Lawful Collection of Hidden Assets to Provide Order Act” on Tuesday, which has been dubbed the “El Chapo Act.” At its essence, the bill would take all seized assets acquired in the prosecution of El Chapo and redirect them into the walls funding.
Through criminal forfeiture, the U.S government is looking to acquire more than $14 Billion from El Chapo’s illegal activities. $14 billion is no small fortune, and Ted Cruz thinks that money should all towards Trump’s wall.
“Fourteen billion dollars will go a long way toward building a wall that will keep Americans safe and hinder the illegal flow of drugs, weapons, and individuals across our southern border,” said Sen. Cruz. “Ensuring the safety and security of Texans is one of my top priorities. We must also be mindful of the impact on the federal budget. By leveraging any criminally forfeited assets of El Chapo and his ilk, we can offset the wall’s cost and make meaningful progress toward achieving President Trump’s stated border security objectives.”
Cruz has already gone to Twitter to push his new Act:

It wouldn’t be too much of a hard-sell to get this act passed especially since this one of Trump’s biggest promises that got him into office. Someone has to pay for this wall, and we already know that US citizens will be footing the bill, and Mexico will not. It won’t be much of a challenge for the GOP to sell this Act.
