Chance The Rapper is spreading breast cancer awareness, as he and his family are mourning the loss of a family member. Chance’s aunt, Kimberly Bennett passed away on May 7 from breast cancer. Although Chance is on tour, he shared his aunt’s important message about Inflammatory Breast Cancer on his Twitter.
“My Auntie Kim lost her battle with Breast Cancer early Sunday morning. She was a warrior and wanted me to share this,” Chance wrote. “Inflammatory Breast Cancer is commonly misdiagnosed and doesn’t come with the same symptoms.” The four-minute video shows Bennett describing her ordeal with stage four breast cancer and gives women different ways to detect cancer early. “I first realized something was wrong when my breast was going from purple to burgundy, and it was hot and getting bigger and warmer,” she says in the video.“It was painful, so I knew something was wrong, but I just thought that it was just an infection — they come, they go.”After a trip to the doctor, Bennett was diagnosed with stage four inflammatory breast cancer. Bennett ends the video with a powerful message:
“If they swell, by all means, go to a doctor. The goal of this cancer is to kill you and to kill you fast.” “The only thing you can do to help yourself is to respond and react as fast as you can.”
