A young boy’s plea for peace has gone viral with over 85,000 views. The child’s topics focused on the gun violence that plagues America, and he gives a refreshing perspective on the issue. The boy, identified as 7-year-old Jeffrey Laney of St. Louis, and his mother, Leanndra Cheatham, have both been exposed to gun violence. Cheatham’s 17-year-old cousin was killed in a drive-by shooting last month, and this added to the discomfort and it helped motivate the video.
“People need to stop killing each other because this is just making me feel bad… I don’t want nothing to happen to all my family, and I’m really serious because I’m really scared to die and I’m really scared for my family to die,” Jeffrey says in the video. His mother takes inventory of prisoner’s possessions as her job, and she says she constantly provides young Jeffrey with examples of bad life choices. “I remind him every day that that is the one place he don’t want to be and that there are a lot of bad people out there,” she says.
The caption of the video reads “My Son has A message for St Louis before bed… Our kids are tired!! wake up people.. Lil J had me in tears.. I can’t fail him !! At Six years old !!!” Hopefully their message continues to spread.
