Back in April, a tweet from Twitter user @1800SADGAL spiraled into a concept film where Rihanna and Lupita Nyong’o. The tweet was inspired by a photo of Lupita and Rihanna sitting front row at the Miu Miu show during Paris Fashion Week. @1800SADGAL tweeted; “Rihanna looks like she scams rich white men and lupita is the computer smart best friend that helps plan the scans.” From there the who’s who of black Hollywood wanted the opportunity to get in on the project including director Ava DuVernay.
While one of the biggest film festivals is going down in France, Cannes had an aggressive bidding war for this twitter-inspired film. Netflix won the bid for the Rihanna/Lupita-starred project, while Ava DuVernay has been slated to direct. Issa Rae of HBO’s “Insecure” is in talks to write the screenplay.
Netflix had no comment, but DuVernay did confirm in a tweet on May 22.
We deserve nice things. ✌🏾️https://t.co/VlbKhLNDIv
