Video has surfaced on social media of at least 3 San Antonio, TX officers using excessive force to detain a 14-year-old girl and in the video, you can see one of the officers strike the teenage girl in the face.
According to HuffPost, the girl was attending a quinceanera and during the party, two adult males attending the party got into a dispute over one accusing the other of being “inappropriate with juveniles,” according to the initial police report.
The fight between the two adults caused the venue operators to shut the party down. According to the reports, the fighting continued outside the venue and the cops were called which lead to the events of the above video.
Currently, the teenage girl has been charged with assault on a police officer and is being held in Bexar County Juvenile Detention Center. The young girl’s attorney Artessia House believes the charge against the young girl will be dropped, and that this entire situation is another example of cops using too much force and simply not understanding what the appropriate use of force is. When it comes to the officer in question House believes he:
“lacked the temperament and the restraint when it came to dealing with this child to the point where he became an aggressor,” House said. “When we talk about use of force, the force has to be proportional. … That force does not seem that it would be proportional ― even if the child did hit him.”
House is ready to file a civil rights action in federal court if the police department tries to muffle this situation and create a justification for the officer’s actions.
