Gucci revealed its Cruise 2018 collection on Monday, May 29, at the Palantina Gallery in Florence, Italy. The new line is retro-focused, with looks inspired by 60’s and 70’s fashion, and has now been caught up in a bit of plagiarism controversy. One of the women’s jackets in the line has been noticed as extremely similar to a coat designed by Dapper Dan.

Dapper Dan is a fashion designer who was based out of Harlem, New York and began as one of the first to ever work with rappers, designing them custom apparel. He worked with Eric B. and Rakim as well as LL Cool J and even with sporting legends Mike Tyson and Floyd Mayweather Jr. He is considered a pioneer in the fashion world.

Dapper Dan made a jacket for Diane Dixon, an Olympic medalist, that is almost identical to the jacket designed by Alessandro Michele that was just released by Gucci. Gucci’s PR has not made any statement on the incident but check it out for yourself and let us know what you think.
