Trump is now asking foreign officials to call him directly on his cell phone, which raises major security concerns in terms of surveillance. At the moment Trump has apparently only suggested this to Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, Mexican President Enrique Peña Nieto, and French President Emmanuel Macron. Trudeau has reportedly made contact over Trump’s cell phone already.
Former Pentagon security adviser, Derek Chollet, stated that “If you are speaking on an open line, then it’s an open line, meaning those who have the ability to monitor those conversations are doing so.” He went on to say, “If someone is trying to spy on you, then everything you’re saying, you have to presume that others are listening to it.”
Trump has ruthlessly criticized Hillary Clinton’s lack of security protocols and awareness yet he still proceeds relentlessly with his haphazard communication techniques that involve top-secret information. It seems Trump’s true loyalty is not for the nation he leads, but rather for his inept and brash forms of communication, whether it be through his texts, Twitter, or public dinners at Mar-a-lago. Either way, the security of America is at risk every time he interacts with the world.
